Text Messaging Timeline

Text Messaging Timeline

I came across this great infographic (here) this morning which depicts the development of text messaging.

It is amazing to think that in 1995 Americans sent on average just 0.4 text messages a month, that's just under 5 a year.

When you compare this to 2011, with the average person sending 357 a month (4284 a year) you can see just how much it has taken off.

The most incredible part for me though was Andrew Acklin's record for the number of text messages sent in one month….200,052. Is that some sort of joke?! There are roughly 40,000 minutes in a month, which means he was sending 5 messages a minute, every minute…for a month.

Incredible.

More importantly, just think what his phone bill must have looked like…
