An elegant product is both beautiful and functional, drawing a
user in to its most defining characteristics and making it more
than just easy, but actually enjoyable to use.
As a Product Manager, I spend most of my days at the
intersection between technology, design, and business requirements
- constantly attempting to ensure our products have all the
functional requirements that our clients need, while at the same
time attempting to keep them as simple and usable as possible.
In this wonderful talk given by Luke Wroblewski at Mobilism
2011, Luke discusses how to approach this fundamental dichotomy by
designing for the mobile experience first. The mental
exercise of designing a product for a 4-inch screen allows you to
focus on eliminating everything that is unnecessary, leaving behind
only the purest of features and UI elements for the cleanest yet
most functional user experience possible.
