2ergo - The Dynamic Force Behind Some of the Most Successful Apps of 2009
2 February 2010
Manchester, United Kingdon - 2009 was heralded as the year of the app and 2ergo, the global mobile technology specialists, led the way, producing some of last year’s most popular, successful and high profile apps.
In the UK, Rightmove.co.uk, premiership club Arsenal FC and the Guardian have all partnered with 2ergo in 2009 to create ground breaking iPhone apps, which have garnered four star reviews across the iTunes store and notched up some half a million downloads. This builds on the huge success of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and FOX Business apps 2ergo developed in Australia and the US as well as the Cricket LIVE iPhone app developed for Vodafone Hutchinson Australia which streams live video of cricket to the iPhone.
Barry Sharples, Joint CEO of 2ergo said: “2009 has kick-started the age of the mobile app. 2ergo’s hugely talented team have brought their technical and marketing expertise to developing and monetising our clients’ content and digital media assets, creating these hugely successful iPhone apps. The majority of these apps shot to the top of the iTunes App Store and were selected by Apple as ‘Featured Apps’, while the Rightmove and Arsenal FC apps have also featured in Apple’s ‘Best of 2009’ chart. This is a tremendous achievement for us and our clients, and I want to congratulate these trail blazing brands on realising the incredible opportunities opened up by this exciting and powerful communications channel.”
Rightmove
The Rightmove.co.uk app, launched in July, reached #1 in the iTunes App Store within the first week of release. It has had over 320,000 downloads to date and has remained within the top 5 ‘free lifestyle apps’ section of the App Store, since its launch. It now receives over 57,000 searches per day and has delivered more than 75,000 agent leads. This free app has revolutionised the house hunting process by allowing mobile users to search for properties by keying in their postcode or by using real-time GPS technology to search their current location. Out of over 100,000 apps on the iTunes App Store, Apple ranked the Rightmove app within its top 30 ‘Best Apps of 2009’.
Arsenal Football Club
2ergo was also behind the official app, launched in October, for Premier League Club Arsenal, meaning that The Gunners’ millions of fans worldwide will never be far from the action. The app which reached #1 in the iTunes App Store’s Sports app section within its first week features Arsenal Football Club news feeds, first team fixtures, league table news, a photo gallery and video footage of match highlights from Arsenal TV as well as profiles, stats and biographies on all the first team players. Apple ranked the Arsenal FC application within its top 30 ‘Top Selling Apps of 2009’.
The Guardian
The Guardian paid-for app, released in December, showcases news, comment, features, photo galleries and award-winning audio from guardian.co.uk through a range of features, and enables users to personalise the content they receive. The Guardian App saw huge success within 24 hours of release, shooting to the top of the iTunes App Store's ‘Top Paid Apps’ and ‘Top Grossing Apps’ charts. Apple also selected it as one of its ‘Featured Apps’. The app was downloaded 70,000 times in its first month (including 9,000 in its first two days) and led the way as one of the first paid-for apps produced by a UK national newspaper.
International Success
In 2009 2ergo also delivered three major mobile campaigns in the US and Australia, partnering with FOX Business, ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) and Vodafone Hutchinson Australia.
FOX Business
The Fox Business app launched in October. It was one of the first business news applications to stream live video and take advantage of the new features of the iPhone OS 3.0 allowing users to create customisable push stock alerts. The app went to #2 in the Finance apps section of the US iTunes App Store within its first week. As well as personalised stock alert notifications, the app offers users the ability to view archived news broadcasts, receive real-time details and benefit from GPS-driven FOX Business broadcasting information.
Australian Broadcasting Corporation
Working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, 2ergo developed Apple iPhone, BlackBerry smartphone and Google Android Java applications to give audiences up to date information while they are on the move. The ABC iPhone app registered more than 140,000 downloads in its first four months of distribution, and ranked #1 Top Free App in the Australia iTunes App Store in its first week of release, a position it retained for three weeks.
Vodafone Hutchinson Australia-Cricket LIVE
2ergo also developed Australia’s first ever live streaming iPhone App for Vodafone Hutchison Australia. Launched in November 2009 the new paid for Cricket LIVE iPhone app was chosen by Apple as one of its ‘Featured Apps’. The App provides sport mad Aussies on the 3 and Vodafone networks with live streaming on their iPhone of every Australian international cricket match in the 2009/2010 Season – including International Test Matches, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals.
